Light & Shadow

AIM • FRAME • CLICK™

Aircraft are built from curves, edges, polished surfaces and deep recesses. Light reveals those shapes; shadow gives them depth.

Read the source

Before composing, locate the dominant light. Ask whether it is front, side, back, hard or soft, and watch how it moves across the airframe.

Protect the highlights

Bright fuselage paint, polished metal and windows can clip quickly. Preserve highlight detail while allowing useful shadow to remain.

Use shadow deliberately

Shadow is not empty space. It creates separation around engines, landing gear, control surfaces and fuselage contours.

Let mood serve the aircraft

Golden hour can feel elegant; hard midday light can feel technical; storm light can feel powerful. Choose the mood that supports the story.
